How our vision and values have powered our growth

Andy Nicol

ABSTRACT is proud to have an enviable list of clients that includes leading financial institutions, law firms and international household-name brands, many of which are happy to sing their praises. So how have they achieved this level of recognition and success?

ABSTRACT founder David Nikolich explains: “Our company vision is that we want to make the corporate world a fairer and better place. That means we work with the employees within an organisation, and we change their lives for the better. To put it simply, we improve businesses through people.”

ABSTRACT achieve this by bringing research and fresh thinking into their learning and development programmes. They find new ways to upskill and empower people, whilst also creating a positive and lasting cultural transformation within a business

How does the ABSTRACT team approach their work?

“Helping people and businesses change for the better is challenging, and requires certain skills and traits. After all, we need to be able to get under the bonnet of how a business is currently operating, and establish what may not be working properly. To get from that point to a place where the culture is stronger, and a company is seeing a Return on Investment from our collaboration, requires us to always stay true to our core values.”

Which are:
  • Display creative intelligence. Every company is different, and that means we can’t just provide a one size fits all solution. We look at the latest theory and research, but then we go further, and look for fresh and unique practical solutions that can be deployed in the field, to tackle a client’s specific problem to solve.
  • Be highly motivated and driven. If we are to be a catalyst for altering people’s approach to business, and inspire lasting and substantial changes in cultural behaviour, we must always lead by example with drive and passion.
  • Demonstrate unwavering commitment, persistence and resilience. There are no quick fixes, but that isn’t to say pretty much any problem can’t be remedied. However, getting to the root of the problems a business faces takes research, asking hard questions, and open collaboration. This may cause initial disruption before the gains are visible, and it takes commitment to see this through, to achieve the beneficial change and ROI our clients will ultimately see.
  • Offer fanatical discipline and loyalty. When your role is to change the culture and behaviours in a company, you need trust, dependability and loyalty. For a client to feel able to collaborate openly, and allow us to change the way their organisation treats its people, we must always show that we are loyal and disciplined in our approach. Small changes lead to big growth

“We have created transformations in some of the biggest companies in their fields, but, at the end of the day, it isn’t about the size of a business, it’s about their commitment to change, open mindedness, and willingness to collaborate. After all, businesses who are capable of cultural change and are prepared to develop and upskill their staff are far more likely to grow in size and reputation in the future. And we love to play a part in that process.”
