Unlike your top talent, the Great Resignation isn’t going anywhere.

Nick Goddard

A new study suggests the Great Resignation wasn’t just a 2021 fad, but something that continues to impact businesses in 2022, and potentially beyond. According to research by PwC, 20% of global workers are actively planning to quit their jobs in 2022.

That’s a lot of employee churn going on right now. And let’s face it, replacing good people is an expensive and time-consuming process. Which is where ABSTRACT come in. We can help you move the focus from a never-ending recruitment strategy, to an approach based around retaining, inspiring and developing your people instead.

It’s worth noting, too, that the Great Resignation doesn’t just seem to be a phenomenon that affects graduate and mid-level talent. LinkedIn has reported an acceleration in the volume of people at director level leaving their jobs since the start of this year. And analysis from recruitment platforms shows a clear uptick in listings for management positions.

In this kind of climate, an effective retainment strategy has never been more critical. Without it, your business could be vulnerable to the kind of brain drain that significantly impacts your ability to meet goals.

So why are people leaving their jobs?

We’ve identified four key reasons for why people hand in their notice:

·      To change career or industry.

·      Lack of development opportunities.

·      Lack of flexibility from employer.

·      Negative working culture.

But which of these factors is driving the current attrition rates? While we’ve got swathes of data and analysis about the way the global workforce is changing, we wanted to drill down a bit further and understand how the Great Resignation is affecting our businesses here in the UK right now. Which is where you can help.

If you’ve not had a chance already, please head on over to our LinkedIn poll, and feel free to share it with others in your professional network. It only takes a second to complete. The results are already compelling, with the data currently showing a clear trend in one direction.
