Matt Taylor

The importance of creative thinking is something that's stuck with me throughout my life. From teaching art and photography at various levels, to freelance creative work, and more recently digital marketing, I've seen first-hand how 'thinking outside the box' can help build lasting, meaningful connections.

My time in postgraduate education at the Royal College of Art also taught me the extraordinary things creative thinkers can achieve when they collaborate. Time and time again I saw brilliant minds coming together, using their combined creativity and passion to build something special that really resonated with a wider audience.

Perhaps this explains why I formed such an immediate connection with ABSTRACT. From our first meeting it was immediately clear that the team had something different at the core of their DNA. They know their vision, purpose and values, and recognise that thinking (and acting) differently is key to getting their message heard.

Like many, the pandemic challenged me to re-evaluate the workplace and its role in my life. Working remotely, I was able to push my skillset even further; using time I would have previously lost to commuting to self-directed training and exploration. I also developed a greater understanding of what the digital space now means to people, and how it can be used to educate, inform and inspire. That said, I still appreciate the value of intermittently meeting up for that physically inspired collaboration that not only contributes to our wellbeing in this new era, but feeds our souls as human beings.

Being able to put my creative skillset to use every single day is something I will never take for granted. In my new role as Digital Designer at ABSTRACT, I look forward to transforming the wealth of knowledge within ABSTRACT into even more exciting and engaging formats, visuals and digital experiences.

It is clear that big things are coming for an organisation that has already built itself a strong reputation as a thought leader, and I'm so excited to be part of the ABSTRACT team!
