The National Windrush Museum is an organisation dedicated to researching, exhibiting, promoting and preserving the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Windrush pioneers, their antecedents and successors.
ABSTRACT’s Sue Liburd MBE DL is a board member of The National Windrush Museum and is an active proponent of the creation of a permanent and fitting tribute to the Windrush generation and their descendants. More widely, Sue supports policy and decision makers to reshape and transform organisations to become inclusive and healthy places to work. Sue is also a Non Executive Director of ABSTRACT.
HMT Empire Windrush is best remembered today as the ship that brought some of the first large groups of post-war migrants from the Caribbean to Britain in 1948, seventy-five years ago this year. The Windrush’s arrival has become symbolic of the generation of Commonwealth citizens who come to live in Britain between 1948 and 1971. More recently, the Windrush Enquiry addressed the wrongful deportation of UK citizens of Caribbean descent and made a number of recommendations.
The National Windrush Festival and International Windrush Conference will take place in June 2023. If you or your organisation would like to take part, sponsor or get involved please get in touch with them via the website here:
