Genuine agents for change


Training and Development company ABSTRACT scooped two industry awards in November recognising their innovative work in creating and delivering learning and development programmes in diversity and inclusion. Thought leaders ABSTRACT’s other areas of expertise are leadership development and decision-making programmes.

Their career management development programme ACCELERATE won the Diversity Initiative of the Year at the Women in Finance Awards 2019 in Dublin (pictured, above). The judge’s citation said the programme is a “genuine agent of change and has a measurable impact on the pipeline of women in business. The programme has an expanding global reach and is well researched. ABSTRACT support and guide financial service firms to better integrate D&I into the culture of the company”. ACCELERATE was also shortlisted as Best Diversity & Inclusion Programme at the TJ Training Awards held at The Tower of London in December.

Also, ABSTRACT’s Sue Liburd MBE won the Champion of Inclusion Award at the Inclusive Companies Awards held in Manchester, reflecting both her role as a non-executive director of ABSTRACT and also as a recognised voice in promoting understanding of the importance of gender parity as a driver for business success. Sue works with leading companies, assisting women and other under-represented groups to achieve C-suite success.

ABSTRACT’s Chief Executive is Andy Nicol, a former International Rugby player who captained both Scotland and Bath and also appeared on two British & Irish Lions tours. Andy combines being CEO of ABSTRACT with working in the media and he is part of the BBC Sport team covering the 2020 Guinness Six Nations Rugby, which started on 1stFebruary with the final matches taking place on 14th March.

Andy said: “I am delighted we have won these two awards as brilliant recognition of our programmes and our people. We aim to change people’s lives and to make the corporate world a better and fairer place through our programmes. ACCELERATE has so far helped thousands of women in Scotland, England, Ireland and worldwide to develop and manage their careers”.
