Making a difference: The importance of team development in the third sector
Mark Fryer
Did you know that there are nearly 560,000 homeless people in the United States (1)?
Of those, around two-thirds are sheltered but nearly 200,000 aren't. On a single night, 0.2% of the US population - or 17 people per 10,000 - is homeless.
Thankfully, Inspirica, one of the largest providers of services to the homeless in Connecticut, is on a mission to "break the cycle of homelessness by helping people achieve - and maintain - permanent housing and stability in their lives."
It's hard for many of us to imagine the distress, anxiety, and complete dread of being homeless. Yet that is the daily reality for many of Inspirica's customers, many of who are also coping with physical and/or mental impediment.
We were introduced to Inspirica's invaluable work by ABSTRACT's US East Coast Associate, Axelle Roosen. Naturally, we were delighted when Inspirica's CEO, Denise Williams, asked for our help to grow the effectiveness of her people stating, "Our next challenge is ongoing enlightenment, using a common language and demonstrating inclusive thinking".
Although we work in different industries, we could relate to the synergies of our corporate goals - making a difference in people's lives.
This month, we begin work on two concepts together - Creating Powerful & Fearless Teams and Diversity of Thought and Respect For Others. Although we've been asked to help Inspirica, my sense is that we will learn just as much - if not more - from them as they do from us.
In short, Inspirica are inspirational. Find out more at https://www.inspiricact.org
